DANIC LAGO

Danic Lago is a Mixed Media Artist based in London, UK.

I am a London based mixed media collagist who grew up in Brazil. Having lived in Switzerland, London, and Mexico, I have always been an explorer: a collector of small treasures, textures, and experiences. Beginning my work in the fashion world, I am specialised in trend research, with experience working with European and Brazilian designers. I have always been inspired with the powerful feminine haute couture in fashion. The restless nature of fashion led me to make poetry with my own hands, pieces of different materials became her purest expression.

The lightness with which my work perceives the world made me understand that being in love with something has diverse meanings, from absolute enthusiasm to deepest pain. My intense connection to paper makes it my most incandescent platform of transformation. My connection with paper can be immediately perceived from my first piece.

Currently, I work with intricate manual collages, a mix of materials. Mixing elements such as paper, wood, watercolour, ink, acrylic, gold leaf, fabrics, dried leaves, mosses, pieces of trees and stones. I hope my pieces reflect the world – a Brazilian touch, a Mexican vibe, and a worldly view.

My work has the ability to transport viewers into a playful world of colours and textures with my collage. The varying interpretations of my work speak for themselves, with viewers becoming enveloped in the stories they tell, each story is always different. I explore the world and use materials from nature, such as discarded wood. Here, I am able to reuse and transform, embracing each material and thus giving them new life.

Silence

“Silence’”tells the beautiful story of the natural cycle of life. The end of one phase and the beginning of another. A time of significant transformation, transition and change. You need to transform yourself and clear away the old to bring in the new. Any change should be welcomed as a positive, cleansing, transformational force in your life. Each colourful, floral, and fluttering detail placed on this vintage Victorian tray, curated at Whitstable Market, creates a peaceful disposition emphasising the importance of fully embracing silence for a sublime rebirth. It is a sign that you need to pave the way to a fuller, more fulfilled life of deeper meaning and significance. “Let the silence take you to the core of life.”

Dreaming of You

This mixed media piece was made with a vintage miniature portrait curated in Portobello Market.

This piece is magical, inspired by mesmerising sounds of Doris Day’s song “Dream a little dream of me”. A beautiful girl dreams about her love, accompanied by a hypnotising array of birds. Delicate and meaningful, this piece makes us step into our own dreams and takes us to loving place.“Dreaming of you” is part of Beloved Objects Collection.

Corona Borealis

“Corona Borealis” is the constellation represented by Ariadne, the daughter of King Minos of Crete. Here she lies heartbroken and asleep after being abandoned by Theseus, laying protected by the nature that surrounds her. However, she is then discovered by the god Dionysus, who falls in love with her and creates the constellation ‘Corona Borealis’. Placing a beautiful crown of stars in the sky to mark her beauty and their eternal bond. The ‘Corona Borealis’ reminds us of the transcendent and transformative nature of love.

The Moon

You need to listen to and trust your intuition so you can see beyond what is in front of you. Feel into situations rather than thinking what they mean. Let go of your conscious mental blocks or negative self-talk and allow your intuition to guide you. Your dreams, intuitions and inner guidance lead you forward toward higher levels of understanding if you listen and use your judgement to help interpret the messages of the subconscious.
Pay close attention to the lunar cycles and attune to its magical power. Connect with the divine feminine and uncover deep intuitive insights and visions of what lies beyond everyday life. On the New Moon, set your intentions and plant the seeds of opportunity so they can grow. And on the Full Moon, honor your achievements and look at what you need to release so that new aspects of yourself can shine.

Joy

This mixed media piece was made on a straw fan base, curated in a Sao Joaquim’s Market in Bahia, Brazil.
This piece radiates bliss. Vibrant colour and intricate embroidered flowers surge from the figure’s skirts, delicately cushioning her resting head. “Joy” – a beautiful fairy – is about self-love, giving yourself room to breathe, rest, and to be draped in beautiful embroidery flowers.
“Joy “ is part of “Life in Mexican colours” Collection
